While staying at home and resting by the fireplace is a great way to spend your time during the winter months, make sure to enjoy the great outdoors as well! Thankfully there are plenty of activities and events to enjoy on Long Island over the next several weeks. Whether you head out sledding or snowshoeing at your favorite park, or enjoy a walk near the water, there is always something to enjoy.

If you are looking for some other ideas for venturing out of the home, there is plenty to see and do on Long Island over the holiday season. We have chosen a few interesting ones to highlight!

Wander Through a Winter Wonderland

Who does not love walking in a winter wonderland? Here on Long Island, it is a tradition that is taken very seriously! Bayville’s Winter Wonderland – Long Island’s Holiday Park has something for everyone. Among the many fascinating activities to partake in, there is a holiday train, axe throwing, wall climbing, a funhouse, ice skating and more! For those who delight in fright, there is also the Bayville Haunted House. Run from Krampus, have dinner at the Asylum and be genuinely terrified if that is your thing.

Partake In a Classic Holiday Ballet

During this time of year, many things seem classic: holiday movies like Miracle on 34th Street, cozying up with a hot chocolate and decorating for the season. Another common tradition? The Nutcracker Ballet.

It originally debuted in 1892 and was written by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. On Long Island, we are fortunate enough to have not only one, but three local productions of this performance. Each is located at the Hampton Ballet Theatre School (HBTS), Eglevsky Ballet, and Ballet Long Island respectively.

Watch the whimsical Sugar Plum fairies and enjoy your time in the Land of the Sweets with the whole family.

Have Holiday Fun On the Farm

For animal lovers of all ages, a visit to a local farm is just the ticket. Fink’s Country Farm is welcoming the community for some family-fun holiday cheer with a crackling fire, tasty cider, and farm animals galore. Our pigs, chickens, goats, cows, and humans are ready to greet you.

In addition to visits from Santa, holiday music, and more, there is a farm stand with a variety of local products, including wreaths, produce, baking, candles, and decorations. Fink’s Country Farm also has a tree lot, featuring Douglas, Fraser, Concolor, and Noble Fir Trees.
